TAKE A PEEK AT

WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO

Jeep Engagement | Carolyn and Tommy

Sometimes I suggest things to couples and I wonder, as my curser hovers over “send,” if they’re going to think I’m totally off my rocker. And maybe some of them did and were too polite to say, but MOST of the time I’ve been really lucky and instead they’ve said, “I love it. Let’s do it!” And I’m not going to sugar coat it folks, those moments, when we jump in with both feet, have resulted in some of my absolute favorite photos. Carolyn and Tommy’s jeep engagement is the perfect example.

Our conversation went something like this:

Me: Let’s talk about your engagement session! What do you guys like to do together?

Carolyn and Tommy: Oh we really love to hike, and take our Jeep places, and get ice cream afterward!

Me: LET’S TAKE A TWO DAY TRIP TO TELLURIDE AND DRIVE THE JEEP UP A MOUNTAIN TO THE HIGHEST WATERFALL IN COLORADO!

Carolyn and Tommy: Okay!

(Have I mentioned I have THE COOLEST JOB, friends?!) And that was just the beginning!

Our first stop was downtown Telluride for ice cream. Telluride is exactly what you’d expect from a sleepy mountain town in the summer. All the cute little shops have their own weird hours and none of the restaurants stay open past nine, namely. (We tried to all go out for a late dinner after we finished shooting and that was an epic failure. 🤣) BUT, it is the cutest little backdrop for eating ice cream!

After walking around downtown Telluride for a bit, we piled into Carolyn’s jeep and headed up the trail to Bridal Veil Falls. If you don’t have a 4wheel drive vehicle with good clearance I do NOT recommend driving up this road. There is a great trail you can hike up too, though there’s a pretty significant elevation gain that route as well.

Fortunately for us Carolyn’s Jeep Wrangler was perfectly suited to the task. In fact, I might have fallen more than a little in love with this car. I may or may not have spent the last few weeks ogling Wranglers on FB marketplace. I love that this little Jeep carries Carolyn and Tommy on all their romantic adventures (like their Jeep engagement). It’s full up to the brim with love!

Next we have another example of how awesome it is when a couple is willing to jump in with both feet. In this case, literally. That is melted snow, folks. It’s icy. But Carolyn and Tommy were more than up to taking off their shoes and hopping in! And when I told them to really have fun with it they didn’t hesitate.

After playing in the water (and offering Tommy a piggyback ride back to the Jeep) we piled back in the car. Our next stop was the falls themselves.

I complain about it lightheartedly, but I love the way the weather changes in Colorado. One minute it’s hot as the dickens and I’m worried about a sunburn as I stand in line at Gnar Tacos, an hour later I’m chilly and wishing for a sweatshirt at the base of Bridal Veil Falls. Elevation gain always brings a temperature drop (3 degrees for every 1,000 feet) so don’t forget your layers! The breeze and mist from the falls added to the invigorating chill. It felt like a whole other world at the base of the falls!

Once we finally lost the sun, we headed back down the mountain. Making sure to really enjoy the water crossing on the way of course!

As a final love note to Carolyn, Tommy, and their Jeep I had them do a little moonlight dancing in the headlights.
